Recovery time (& planning for the future)
Recovery time (& planning for the future)

It became apparent that competing at intermediate level was too much for a shoulder issue that has been bothering Jackie for years. Reluctantly, surgery was the only option and now she can’t ride until September.

MARLANDO meanwhile made a successful start to competition in his first Intro test at Chard last month and shows a great deal of promise for a proper start to his eventing career in 2022.

Out attempt at ET with VERGUS was unfortunately unsuccessful, but all being well we will try again in the Spring. Jackie is planning on establishing a small breeding business and has recently acquired a fantastically bred showjumping mare DOMINIQUE (Verdi x Calvados). A third broodmare (bred by the VDL stud) will also joining the yard at the end of the year after weaning her current foal. Exciting times ahead!

Apologies for the lack of news and updates recently. Many of you who follow me on Harvey-Knight Eventing on Facebook will know we suffered the tragedy of losing twin colts at the beginning of May.

VERGUS has thankfully recovered well and we are just about to embark on Embryo Transfer as she is unable to carry a foal again.

HISCO came out with minimal preparation and flew round both a novice and an intermediate. An incredible horse who is still only young and who has the most exciting future at the top of the sport still ahead of him.

MARLANDO is coming on nicely, showing his sparkle with a few bronks here and there and showing me the floor a couple of times! Nothing nasty at all, just demonstrating the quirks that all top competition horses required. I think he could be really, really special.

KING FRANK is now a yearling! Very grateful he hasn’t sold, as VERGUS appreciated having her baby from last year after losing the twins. We all adore this boy and although selling him is the sensible option, we’re all keen for him to remain in the yard!
